Gomennasai m( - -)m

Hmmmm. Reading up on Parkinson's Disease.......(- -;). Will be limiting my blogging activities for some time. Not to worry, I'm not the one with Parkinson's、it's my mom. However, I do seem to be dropping things more frequently......
My trip to Japan will probably be delayed....Sorry Yokohama Dojo.
Please excuse me if I am late in responding....
Aloha and have a good Day, y'all.
If can, can. No can, no can. Dat's life.
ごめんなさい・母のパーキンソン病が進んできたので、当分の間このブロッグを非定期的にします(とは書いたもの、もともと非定期だった???)。御了承お願いします。

Makiki Dojo

Today was an interesting session. The temple was having a funeral service right above the practice hall, so we had a "silent" practice. Shhhhhhhhh..... No Kiais, no shouting, no cadence.....(^^) So the practice was very low key. More review on kihon waza. We also did a reaction drill for back grabs. The drill is to gewt the kids to naturally move automatically. Right shoulder, right turn; Left shoulder left turn. Automatically cover the head with both hands for protection. This positions the forearms in a good position to execute an arm bar. The kids did not do arms bars but just learned the positioning. (^^)

I also introduced the kids to what "full contact entailed". Have four kids signed up for kumite sessions. After today's demo? We'll see.

A short lecture on the importance of concentration and giving 110 % effort along with the importance of "tsukuri" set-up phase of blocks

Martial Arts in Hawaii
Did you know that Hawaii has its own brand of martial arts? Here are some examples.
Kajukenbo

Lua

Mitose Lineage Kosho Ryu Kenp

There are many schools here on Oahu representing a wide range of  karate systems from Japan and Okinawa. Many cannot be found on the Yellow Pages (^^) as well.
With  large Korean, Chinese, and Filipino communities in Hawaii there are also many Tae Kwon do, Kung Fu and Escrima instructors. In what is rapidly becoming a mini Korea town in the Keeaumoku area there are three TKD Dojangs that I know of. Nearby elementary school cafetaerias change into practice halls for a variety of martial arts. (^^)
If you ever visit Hawaii. Take time to visit and watch some of the martial arts offered on the island.

Quote for the weekend.
We can only help make our lives and our world more peaceful, when we ourselves feel peace. Peace already exists within each of us, if we only allow ourselves to feel its comfort. Peace of mind begins when we stop thinking about how far we have to go, or how hard the road has been, and just let ourselves feel peace. Peace of mind gives us the strength to keep trying and keep walking along the path that we KNOW is right for our lives.  – Robert Alan
