A very good example of the Negotiation Stance or 対応の構え。The paws are in the open mode which does not antagonize the person you are forced to deal with. A closed paw would send a message that you ready to rumble. We will be starting a net pal relationship between Yokohama, Makiki and Kesshinkai Dojo under Antony Demarco Sensei of New York in the near future. Through the net pal, the children will learn more of each other’s culture and also get to practice their English, Japanese and Pidgin English.
Mommies can also exchange receipes, discusss differences in rasing children.
Daddies can discuss differences in handling wives. (^^)

As I previously wrote we have always done drills much like the "Tabata" from before. It just wasn't called that at that time nor any formal academic research announced.

ReplyDeleteYesterday night we had a good practice followed by our first Parent-Shidouin Conference. It went really well. I got to give a brief introduction of our dojo and our philosophy towards karate. The meeting was followed by the usual "Konshinkai" and I was surprised that many parents and kids showed up! It was really exciting and we were able to close the gap between Shidouin and parents. Of course I had to drive the Chourous to their usual Sea Horse pub. lol

Ahh the Sea Horse Pub!! I sure miss the owner's cooking. You need to post a picture on this post so Hawaii and New York sees how "grand and spacious" Seashorse is! (^^)
Back to PSA, I have always considered the Dojo as an extended family so it is imperative that good communication is maintaind by the instructors and parents. We don't want to make it a drop off nursery or sports gym.
